Is Microsoft (Bing) advertising worth it in 2026?

Microsoft Advertising is usually worth it in 2026 if you're already profitable on Google Search, as an add-on that also reaches Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, and Copilot.

Usually, yes, if you already run Google Search ads that make money. Microsoft Advertising, which was called Bing Ads until 2019, works best as an add-on to a proven Google campaign: the same keywords and landing pages, shown to people searching on a different network. If you haven’t proven search ads anywhere yet, start with Google and come back later.

Two things make the platform more interesting than its old reputation suggests. Eligible search campaigns also serve ads inside Microsoft Copilot, and LinkedIn profile targeting gives B2B advertisers a lever Google doesn’t have. Here is where the ads run, how they reach Copilot, and when to skip the platform.

Where do Microsoft ads actually show?

Microsoft search ads show on Bing and on partner search engines, including Yahoo, AOL, DuckDuckGo, and Ecosia. Eligible campaigns also serve ads in Microsoft Copilot. Audience ads, a separate format, run on MSN, Microsoft Start, the Edge browser, Outlook.com, and publisher partner sites.

The partner engines are the part most advertisers overlook. If some of your customers search on DuckDuckGo, Ecosia, or Yahoo, Microsoft’s network is how a search ad reaches them there. A Google-only plan leaves those searches to whoever showed up on Microsoft.

For most businesses, search is the place to start. Audience ads reach people while they read the news or check email, so judge them more like display ads, and add them once search is profitable.

How do ads in Microsoft Copilot work?

You can’t buy Copilot ads on their own. Microsoft builds them automatically from the assets in eligible campaigns, and eligible campaigns are opted in with no way to opt out. There are no Copilot-specific metrics, your negative keywords still apply, and search ads need a logo to be eligible.

In practice, that means housekeeping. Upload a logo. Keep headlines, descriptions, and images accurate, because Microsoft assembles Copilot ads from them. And keep negatives tight: you can’t isolate Copilot clicks in reporting, so negative keywords are one of the few controls you have there.

Microsoft also made AI Max for Search generally available on August 31, 2026, and it serves on both Bing and Copilot. Test it on part of the account before rolling it out everywhere.

Online stores get two more pieces. Offer Highlights pull product details from Merchant Center into Copilot, Edge, and Bing in English-speaking markets, and Copilot Checkout in the US works with PayPal, Shopify, and Stripe. Copilot is one of several AI assistants that now carry ads; our overview of AI search ads covers ChatGPT and Google’s AI Mode too.

Can you target LinkedIn profiles with Microsoft Ads?

Yes. Microsoft lets you apply LinkedIn profile data (company, industry, job function, and seniority) to your campaigns. These targets work as bid adjustments rather than hard filters: you bid more for people who match, and your ads can still show to everyone else searching your keywords.

That makes it a precision tool for B2B. Say a cybersecurity firm sells to IT leaders. It can raise bids when the searcher works in IT at a senior level, and it can upload a list of target companies (Microsoft accepts up to 10,000 company names). The keyword still has to match the search. The LinkedIn layer decides how much each click is worth to you.

Why can Microsoft Ads be more efficient than Google Ads?

In many categories, fewer advertisers compete in Microsoft’s auction than in Google’s, and an auction with fewer bidders often clears at a lower price. The tradeoff is volume. Microsoft’s network is smaller, so it adds to Google rather than replacing it.

Plenty of businesses set up Google Ads and stop there, which leaves room on Microsoft for the ones who follow through. We don’t quote average click prices, because they swing by industry and market; your own test will tell you more than any benchmark. How do you set up Microsoft Ads without wasting the first month?

Install Microsoft’s UET tag and confirm conversions are recording, then use the Google Ads import to bring your campaigns over, including Performance Max. Treat the import as a first draft. The tuning that follows is where the results come from.

  1. Install UET before anything spends. UET is Microsoft’s conversion tracking tag. Microsoft’s bidding only knows what UET tells it, so a missing tag means it’s optimizing blind.
  2. Import, then check every budget. Size each one for Microsoft’s volume on purpose instead of assuming Google’s numbers carry over.
  3. Add a logo and review assets so your search ads qualify for Copilot.
  4. Layer LinkedIn bid adjustments onto B2B campaigns.
  5. Review search terms weekly for the first couple of months. The queries that trigger your ads won’t mirror Google’s, and negatives are how you clean them up.

When should you skip Microsoft Ads?

Skip it, for now, if you haven’t proven a Google Search campaign, if your budget barely funds one platform, or if you can’t track conversions. Microsoft rewards businesses that already know which keywords and landing pages make money.

  • No proven Google campaign. The import copies whatever you have. If the Google account loses money, you’ll be losing it on two networks.
  • A tiny budget. Splitting a small budget across two platforms leaves both too thin to learn anything. Our Google Ads budget guide explains why a workable small-business test often lands around $1,000-$3,000 a month in spend on its own. Fund that first.
  • No tracking. Without UET reporting conversions, you can’t tell good traffic from bad, and neither can Microsoft’s bidding.

Who gets the most out of Microsoft Ads in a market like Tampa?

B2B and professional services firms are often the best fit, because their buyers research vendors during the workday on company computers. In Tampa, think of the accounting, legal, IT, and engineering firms in the Westshore and downtown office corridors.

Picture a Westshore commercial insurance broker. Its buyers are CFOs and operations managers comparing options between meetings. A Microsoft campaign can reach them in Bing results, and on Edge and Outlook.com through audience ads, while a LinkedIn bid adjustment puts extra weight on finance leaders at the companies on its target list. The same logic holds for B2B firms in any metro with a large office workforce.

Common questions about Microsoft Advertising

Is Bing Ads the same as Microsoft Advertising? Yes. Bing Ads was renamed Microsoft Advertising in 2019. It’s the same platform, and its reach now goes well beyond Bing: partner search engines, Copilot, and audience placements like MSN and Outlook.com.

Can I opt out of ads in Copilot? No. Eligible campaigns are opted in automatically, you can’t buy Copilot placements separately, and Microsoft doesn’t report Copilot metrics on their own. Your negative keywords still apply, and search ads need a logo to qualify.

Can I run Microsoft Ads without Google Ads? Yes. You can build campaigns directly in Microsoft Advertising. We usually suggest proving your keywords and landing pages on Google first, because Google’s larger search volume produces answers faster, then bringing the winners over.

How does conversion tracking work on Microsoft Ads? Through UET, Microsoft’s tracking tag. Install it across your site, set up conversion goals for the actions that matter, such as form fills or purchases, and confirm they record before you spend.
